Alright… I can pour my wisdom, and you can gulp it until you are tired of content overdose. But let’s keep it fun and useful. Let’s learn why you should go through the trouble of implementing a morning routine for kids.

Now that you can clearly see why having a good morning routine is important, let’s check out some ways to improve it for your kids.
1. Sleep Well and Make Waking up Easy
A good morning routine for your kids is rooted deeply in last night’s sleep. Your kids start to function better when they have slept well. This keeps them charged both mentally and physically.
Your child’s development varies from one age to the other. Sleep is an important element that supports their growth. The best way to support that growth is through sound sleep. In some phases, they might require more sleep than usual.
- Sleep routine for a 15-month-old baby will be different from that of your toddlers or teens. If they are between 6 and 13 years old, your children will have to sleep for 9 to 11 hours. But how can they ensure they are getting enough sleep while waking up at the same Time? Well, work backward from when the alarm goes off.
- Steer clear of TVs, phones, and other electronics. The more tech and gadgets they have during bedtime, the harder it will be for them to fall asleep.
- Create a sleep environment. Schedule a nighttime routine at home if needed.
2. Morning Routine for Kids? It Starts the Day Before
Sleeping well is more important than waking up early. Your kids can wake up early and be sleep-deprived all day. The same goes for you. To start the day early and fast, prepare things beforehand. In fact, prepare the day before.
Think of things your kids need first thing in the morning. Their breakfast and school uniforms are good places to start. Need a few more tips? Well, I’m leaving some down below –
Prepare breakfast: Cut the veggies and prepare ingredients for breakfast if you must cook first thing in the morning. You can even pack the lunches and refrigerate them before going to bed.
Discipline your Kids: ask them to put away their school uniforms in the right place. If they build this habit, they won’t have to run around the house looking for the missing piece of sock.
Check your car: Does your car need fuel? Is everything working properly? If you have to
wake up and hit the road, you cannot have the car giving up on you. Check the fuel meter before arriving home. It’s best to refill it before coming back from work.
Stay organized: do you throw the car keys on the living room desk right after arriving from work? Do you even remember where you keep your office bag? Build an excellent comeback-home routine for yourself. Ask your kids to follow. When you start putting things back where they belong, you won’t have to look for them again.
3. Morning Me Time Matters
The most important morning routine for kids isn’t for kids. It’s for the parents or the caregiver. Sounds weird, but that’s the truth. It’s the parents who must give kids directions. They’ll have to wake themselves up, get ready for work, and prepare the kids for school.
Before you are ready to lead the charge, give yourself time and regroup. Practice relaxation or meditation. If you have a workout routine, follow it. Grab your favorite cup of morning drink (coffee or tea) and take slow sips. Believe me, it works like therapy.
Give yourself Time for things you love. Read a page of a book. My favorite is morning journaling. Sometimes, I even take a sketchbook and scribble things for fun.
4. Waking up Routine for Kids
Don’t adjust your alarm or snooze it. Adjust your sleep time. Your kids will require different amounts of sleep. Even you will need more sleep on some days than on other days.
If you go to bed early, it’s best. Even help your kids build the same habit. But make sure they aren’t going to bed to skip homework. Children are cunning, and you must be aware of their true intentions.
Pun aside, when your children are aware of the Time the alarm goes off, they should be able to regulate their sleeping habits accordingly. If you stay consistent with your wake-up routine, so will your kids.
5. Finally, a Morning Routine!
It looks like we have a routine, after all. But remember, the same routine doesn’t apply to all the kids. Your two-year-old will not make the bed or get ready for school. Adjust the routine to fit your child’s age and what they must do in the morning. Make sure to clock their activities accordingly.
So, here’s a start –
- Wake up.
- The easiest and most important task in the morning is to organize the bed. It helps your kid learn to organize their day.
- Personal hygiene comes next. Brushing, taking a shower, hair, and other personal care are important now.
- Feed your pets. If you have a pet dog, an aquarium full of fish, or a cat, it’s time for their food.
- Collect your supplies. Remember what goes with you when you go out for the day. Take your sports outfits, lunches, backpacks, and everything else you need.
- Take care of your health. You will only remain helpful if you are healthy. Remember your medicine, vitamins, and whatever keeps your health at a peak position.
Think of all these good things you must do in the morning. Make a routine that works for you.
6. Don’t Skip Breakfast
Whatever you do, your kids will follow. Children imitate their parents. So, if you are building up that good practice to make your breakfast and serve it on the table, they’ll know it’s practice.
Even if you don’t have enough time, reach out for the protein bar or anything you have close to your hands. Soak some oats overnight and have them in the morning with peanut butter, almonds, and other healthy stuff that goes with oats.
Steer clear of sugary food and processed food stored in the refrigerator. Stuff your fridge with healthy food. Fruits like bananas and apples are great.
If you can incorporate healthy eating habits and all the other habits, then there’s nothing better. Your choices can influence theirs. So, be very careful about what you are eating.
Start Steady
It’s ok to start small, fail on the first day, or snooze the alarm for another five minutes. Just help yourself and stop making excuses for yourself. You are not a motorbike sprinting from 0 to 60 within 0.7 seconds.
