Andy Cohen On Raising His Kids

Andy Cohen On Raising His Kids In His 50s, Parenting Hacks, And More

Andy Cohen recently shared a glimpse of his parenting approach – and why it does not need any fancy prop.

On Saturday’s Ask Andy Panel, conducted by BravoCon 2023, the host of Watch What Happens Live was asked about some parenting tips that he had written about in his book called ‘The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up,’ which also included being a good parent when “just a teeny bit high.”

Cohen had briefly revisited this particular piece of advice for the concept of stoned parenting just before jumping into his largest tip yet. His go-to option? Kids do not necessarily require the very best of the best when it actually comes to some fancy devices.

He said, “The big one that I learned from my break baby nurse, Teresa — who also worked with Anderson [Cooper], she put us through baby boot camp — she really taught me for infants, don’t give them anything that they become so dependent on. In practice, that means some baby basics aren’t conducive to adaptability. So, neither of my kids had pacifiers. I didn’t do the crib that shakes them to sleep because what if I go somewhere and they don’t have an electric crib.

Additionally, Cohen also talked about raising his 4-year-old son, Ben, and 18-month-old daughter, Lucy, and that too in his fifties.

He said, “I have to say, having kids later in life has been a blessing because I’m more in my own skin, and I think that I’m not as psycho as I would have been 20 years ago. I think I’m a little more chill. ‘OK, eat the chips for breakfast; we’ll try again tomorrow.’

On the same day, the 55-year-old single dad also talked about the potential for his kids to become a part of the entertainment world. He said, “I would feel great about it. Absolutely great about it. Ben is a ham, he is so funny. It’s so funny when he says something really funny. I look at him and go, ‘Oh my God, you’re funny,’ and I’m so excited to get into that with him.

BravoCon 2023 took place on Sunday in Las Vegas at the Caesars Forum.
